Board of Trustees

CDF is governed by a board of trustees. The trustees are responsible for making strategic decisions about the organisation in addition to deciding which cases to pursue and how best to pursue those cases.

Currently there are seven trustees registered with the Charities Commission.

There are no openings for the Board of Trustees currently.

Chris Field

Chris Field

Chris is the chair of CDF. Chris is an experienced marketing and communications professional with a particular interest in developing new ways of generating income for charities online. He is also a keen mountain biker.

Cynthia Barlow

Cynthia Barlow

Cynthia has been involved in the issue of cyclists’ safety since her daughter was killed by a concrete mixer lorry in 2000. She is the current Chair of RoadPeace, a charity which offers advice and support to road crash victims and campaigns for traffic justice and road danger reduction. In that capacity she has met many other families who have encountered difficulties with the inquest and criminal justice systems and remains determined to support families through this process.

Cynthia is an observer of the Cyclists’ Defence Fund.

Martyn Bolt

Martin Bolt

For 13 years Martyn has chaired his local consultative forum for cycling and has been involved in campaigns to develop quality infrastructure for cycling, for which he received an award from the European Greenways Association. He also worked for CTC, the national cycling charity, as a community development officer for North Yorkshire.

Nicky Gough

Nicky Gough

Nicky is a Family Lawyer and Mediator with her own company Cotswold Family Law as well as being a keen cyclist averaging 200 miles a week. She would love to see cycling become the transport of choice for more people. Apart from being a Lawyer, Nicky is a Trustee for a number of other charities, spent nearly 10 years working in a hospital in Uganda and is married with 5 children, some of whom cycle!

Robin Muers

Robin Muers

Robin Muers retired from the Planning Inspectorate some years ago. Previously he was a local authority solicitor. Not having a car, he and his wife potter about town on their bikes and still undertake the occasional, long cycling holiday – something they have done on and off since some date way back in the last century!

Roger Geffen MBE

As well as being a trustee on the CDF board, Roger is also Campaigns and Policy Director at CTC, the national cycling charity. Roger became involved in cycling as a volunteer with the London Cycling Campaign in the late 1980s. He then went on to take active roles in various transport and environment groups including the UK's anti-road movement of the early 1990s. While working in local government, he gained a  masters degree in Transport, focusing on walking, cycling and Local Transport Plan policies.
